Dr. Jose Torre-Bueno, CEO, Chairman of the Board, VP of R & D
Dr. Torre-Bueno received a Ph.D. from Rockefeller University in physiology, specializing in energy metabolism and heat transfer. He founded, managed, and sold American Innovation, a medical instrument company that made the first color image analyzer in biomedicine. He has been the CTO and CIO of Clarient, a leading developer of cancer diagnostics and managed the technical and IP aspects of several merger and acquisition deals for Clarient. About a third of all breast cancer cases in the US are diagnosed using algorithms he developed. He is a prolific inventor with over 40 issued and pending patents in his name. One of these is the pending patent on using advanced mathematics from the biomedical field to optimize the energy improvements to a building which is the core of EES's proprietary technology. He also designed and built two advanced sustainable homes for himself.
Ted Torre-Bueno, President and VP of Operations
Ted Torre-Bueno has broad and deep experience as a manager in a number of time-critical and intense settings. He has worked in the construction trades running crews, in Hollywood as a 1st AD scheduling and running entire film sets, and in the video game industry as a project manager. He has also started his own company to provide energy audits, and has practical experience as a field energy auditor and building inspector.
Edward T. Olson, Project Management
With over thirty years experience in the renewable energy and residential and commercial building industries Ted Olson will oversee project management for Empowered Energy Solutions. In the 1980's he worked on projects developing renewable energy, then in the 1990's, was a partner in a development company that procured land, developed and built sub-divisions and high-end custom homes. For the past decade, he has been project manager on multi-state and large hotel/resort projects, most recently, completing the Montage Hotel & Spa resort and Condominiums, in Beverly Hills, California (Six Star LEED Rated development).
Eric Fagan, VP of Finance
Eric has over ten years of experience in the position of Manager, Director or VP of Operations with multi million dollar corporations. He has been responsible for the strategic direction of sales planning, P&L Management, sales force management, new business development, operations, key account management, supply chain management, financial planning, market analysis, and customer service management.
Aloha Record, Director of Research
Aloha Record received her Master's Degree from the School of Library & Information Science at San Jose State University in May 2009. She has focused her studies on Web 2.0 technologies and education in effective research strategies. For the past year, Aloha worked as an intern at the San Jose State University Library, where she provided reference assistance and taught nearly 50 research instruction sessions for undergraduate students. Prior to that, she was employed as a Web page content evaluator, a Carlsbad City Library clerk, and a research assistant at UC San Diego, where she earned her BA in Political Science and History. This fall, Aloha will be joining the faculty at West Valley Community College as a research skills instructor.
Alan Schmidt, Responsible Managing Officer (RMO)
Alan received his BA from Stanford in 1967. He founded Distinctive Builders as a general contracting firm in 1978. For more than three decades his firm has been on the cutting edge of efficient and renewable construction, building environmentally conscious custom homes, churches, tenant improvements, and public projects. A recent project was the Begole Archaeology Research Center at the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in Borrego Springs, the first passive solar designed, super insulated straw bale construction on State Park land.
